References & Thank You
You are more than your resume. We work hard to help you best communicate and differentiate yourself on paper but often just as important are the communications around your resume.
Reference Lists
Please download our free template for references (or click the W above). BEFORE COMPLETING, please keep in mind what is important and relevant for the role you are supplying these references for. From the perspective of a recruiter or the ultimate decision maker a reference does the following:
-
Verifying Credentials and Experience: References are like a window into a your professional life, helping confirm job history, skills, and accomplishments. These individuals give an outside view on what you bring to the table, clarify what your prior role really entailed.
-
Gaining Insight into Work Ethic and Attitude: Talking to references offers valuable insights into a candidate’s work ethic, attitude, and how they get along with others. This helps the company understand if you would be a good fit for the team and work environment. Sometimes, volunteer work or other types of references may be appropriate to support this need.
-
Reducing Hiring Risks: A bad hire can cause 10x the candidates salary to the company (not just recruiter fees but training, lost time, customer impact, company morale and more). References help minimize the risk of hiring the wrong person. By checking in with former employers or colleagues, companies make more confident decisions about who to bring on board. Note - The higher the compensation the more important this is!
-
Spotting Potential Issues: References can also alert a company to any red flags, like inconsistencies in the candidate’s application or past performance issues. This information is crucial to avoid potential problems down the road. Don't worry - we are here to help with this in the resume writing process!
